Italy, the land of Michelangelo, da Vinci, The Colosseum , Rome & Venice, the empire that conquered most of Europe and the Middle East, home to Pavarotti, Puccini & Verdi, where spaghetti and pizza were made famous. A beautiful country incredibly rich in culture and history.

The pictures in this gallery were taken on a short side trip while driving through Italy from Germany to Spain. If you're driving south towards Genoa on the A7 highway turn left when you get to the city, put up with the traffic and take a slow drive on the local coastal roads towards Rapallo, this city is gorgeous and is right on The Mediterranean. Then keep driving towards Santa Margherita Ligure and then to the end of the road to Portofino, you can go no further from here.

Now turn around and take the same road back to Genoa and drive on to the coastal city of Varazze. If you're feeling adventurous keep driving on the coastal road to locations such as Savona, San Remo, the Nice just across the border in France and even Monaco. This trip done by car takes a couple of days without mayor stops. Its best taken in the off season as it will be really crowded in summer and the traffic will be beyond insane. Still, it is a trip well worth taking and you will remember it for the rest of your life.
