Red Rock Canyon

Nevada, USA

Not everything in Las Vegas is about gambling, shows, dining and nightlife. About 20 mi (32 km) west of the Las Vegas strip lies the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

The canyon and surrounding area displays a set of large red rock formations: a set of sandstone peaks and walls called the Keystone Thrust. The walls are up to 3,000 feet (910 m) high, making them a popular hiking and rock climbing destination. The highest point is La Madre Mountain, at 8,154 feet (2,485 m).

A 13 mi (12 km) long one way road loops the are and provides access to incredible vistas of multicolored rock formations. The area receives over 2 million visitors a year.
